Pleasure tinged with pain

Freemasons often refer to 'pleasure tinged with pain', and this was indeed the case for Bro Jonathan Streeter of Sabrina Lodge No. 4158 in Shrewsbury, Shropshire.

Jon was recently part of a Double Exaltation ceremony into Pengwerne Chapter No. 3229, and went through with it despite having broken both legs in a parachuting accident only a short time before. Not only did he complete every part of the Ceremony, kneeling, standing and walking unassisted throughout, but Jon dispensed with his crutches too. 'The most difficult part was finding a pair of black trousers which went over the plaster cast,' he explained.

Jon needed to make the parachute jump to keep his qualifications current, but things went wrong as he came into land. 'I actually heard the break, but didn't want to make a fuss. I certainly didn't want to miss out on the Exaltation – I was determined to see it through properly.' His partner in the Double Exaltation was Brother Glyn Baldwin, also of Sabrina Lodge, stood ready to give assistance. Those present will attest, however, that not a flicker of pain crossed Jonathan's face.
